Is a light ambient sensor. Do a little search... Is one subject with so many discussions! Also is on User Manual.

it seems my ambient sensor is not working normally ..
because when swich off the room lights, the ambient sensor does not turn on ..

Is not for turn on or off. Is to measure the ambient light, for put the good level on screen and on keys back light. It also do information on standby mode.

kdjd2020: what that sensor does is adjust your screen display brightness and your keypad backlight brightness according to how light/dark it is...
i.e. in daytime, your keypad will not light up that much as it is not needed, but at night, in a totally dark room it will work at full power.
this saves some battery life in the end..
