Nokia PC Suite 7 + Nokia 6555 Bluetooth Pairing Problem

Hello All,

I've recently purchased a Nokie 6555 and i've been trying to find a way to synchronize it with my outlook calendar.

I've downloaded Nokia PC Suite 7, but when trying to pair/connect my phone it always gives the error message "Cannot Authenticate".
On the Phone itself, the pairing seem to have successfully completed.

I have no problem pairing the phone using the "Add Bluetooth device" in the Bluetooth neightborhood in Windows. The problem only occurs in the PC Suite itself.

I taken a look around this forum and apparently it's a known problem, though there doesn't seem to be any solution. Also the previous posts seem to involve PC Suite version 6.

I'm running XP Pro SP2 (DE) a Nokia PC Suite 7. My Laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

I appreciate any feedback you might have.

Re: Nokia PC Suite 7 + Nokia 6555 Bluetooth Pairing Problem

Hi! I have the same exact same problem with the same Lenovo T61 (7659-AB7) and a Nokia E65.

I am about to decide to return the phone to the store and never buy Nokia again.

Re: Nokia PC Suite 7 + Nokia 6555 Bluetooth Pairing Problem

i think the problem might be that lenovo provides a propritary implementation of the Bluetooth stack. If I go to my device settings, there are two devices listed under bluetooth
- Bluetooth bus-enumerator
- Thinkpad bluetooth with enhanced data rate

Both list Broadcom as manufacturer name and not microsoft. What i don't understand is why exactly this is a problem. Most driver are proprietary by nature, and provided by the hardware manufacturer. They must however adhere to certain standards. In this case they both hold microsoft windows certified hardware certificates.

In any case, maybe the solution to this problem is to install a nokia-compatible bluetooth stack, but i don't know exactly how to go about this. I feed disinclined to change drivers at this. Maybe someone else on this forum can help? After all, it seem to be quite a common problem.

Alternatively, maybe theres are way to synchronize with outlook WITHOUT using the Nokia PC Suite. I've read some guides which mention something about PIM etc. but apparently my phone doesn't provide a compatible interface for this.

Re: Nokia PC Suite 7 + Nokia 6555 Bluetooth Pairing Problem

Actually just did some research on topic of bluetooth stacks.

According the following wikipedia article, Broadcom basically uses the WIDCOMM stack.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_stack#General-purpose_implementations

The WIDCOMM, which, i think, is listed under compatible stack implementations:

I honestly suspect that theres bug in the nokia pc suite device pairing wizard. It would be nice if the software had some kind of debugging or error log; At least then, it might be possible to detect exactly what goes wrong.

Jens,
Great news you got it working!!! I am sorry wasn't able to invest a lot of time on this matter. I was just wondering you did you go about upgrading, since I did a System Update, downloaded the lattest Bluetooth drivers from Lenovo and still have the same problem.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Nokia PC Suite 7 + Nokia 6555 Bluetooth Pairing Problem

I simply ran the following installer actually and then the setup.exe.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-61425

I had bluetooth deactivated at the time, and only turned it back on after the installation was complete and the computer has been rebooted. When i turned bluetooth back on it immediately installed a bunch of stuff. Pairing with PC Suite worked after that.

However, i'm a bit dissapointed that the outlook sync doen't work any better. While i does sync my address entries. It doesn't sync my calendar properly. Ideally it should sync the entries from my outlook calendar to my phone, but it doesn't see them at all i think. I theorise that this is because it's actually an exchange calender, stored on the exchange server, and not locally on my machine. Still it a major drag.

I guess i have to play around with it some more.
